Heaton Primary School is located on Haworth Road (B6144) on the
north-west fringe of Bradford, West Yorkshire (BD9 6LL). The school
complex consists of the main building, which is set back from the
road behind a playground, and a large extension, the Woodland Building,
to the rear of the site. Access to all parts of the complex is via
a short driveway (see photos left) between the school’s front playground and
the local Health Centre. There are two car parks available, clearly
signed. The smaller car park, and all the school buildings, are under
24-hour security video surveillance.
If you are approaching Heaton from the North (Keighley etc.), then use the A650 Bingley by-pass until it’s end, (Ramada Jarvis Hotel) and then come back upon yourself on the ‘old road’ (2nd exit) to the first set of traffic lights. Here, bear left (B6269) and continue ahead, passing The Sun Inn on your left. Up the hill (being careful of the speed cameras) and over the brow you’ll pass the HQ of Hallmark Greetings Cards on your right. At the next lights, turn right (B6144), and then look for the Methodist Church on your right. At the pedestrian refuge 100 yards ahead, prepare to turn right straight afterwards into a narrow drive, between the Health Centre and the School playground. The Church Welcome Board will be on the end of the drive to reassure you!
If you are approaching from the East of the city (Leeds etc.) via Leeds Road, cross the Inner Ring Road into the City Centre, taking the 1st exit at the first roundabout. Pass the Telegraph & Argus newspaper office and St. George’s Hall on your left. Continue ahead at the lights, past the Hilton Hotel (under the footbridge) and up the incline to the roundabout (facing the Central Library). Take the 2nd exit here, pass ahead through the next (almost immediate) lights (centre lane), ahead through the next set (50 yards) and head uphill with T.J. Hughes Store on your left (B6144 Haworth). Be careful at this point – all traffic turns sharply left at the next lights, and then sharply right uphill at some more lights, and again sharply left at the top of the short hill! At the following lights, continue ahead (another Morrison Supermarket on your right), keep in the left-hand lane through yet more traffic lights, and on to the normal single carriageway road (White Abbey Road/Whetley Hill), being careful of the speed cameras and crossing a mini-roundabout.
Keep going forward and up the hill and then straight ahead at the traffic lights,
then along the brief dual carriageway, moving to the right-hand
lane as you see the roundabout appear. Take the 3rd exit (count carefully!),
follow the road as it twists right through another set of lights and on uphill past
the Hare & Hounds
Public House on your left. At the traffic lights ahead,
turn left, and then look for the Methodist Church on your right.
At the pedestrian refuge 100 yards ahead, prepare to turn right straight
afterwards into a narrow drive, between the Health Centre and the
School playground. The Church Welcome Board will be on the end of
the drive to reassure you - well done!
If you are approaching from the West of the city (Halifax, etc.), use the A629 Keighley road until you reach the B6145 (Thornton Road) at Denholme Clough. Turn right towards Bradford, crossing the A644 and travel several miles (!) downhill through Thornton village. Shortly after Thornton Parish Church (on your left) there are three speed cameras in the 30 MPH zone, and a double mini-roundabout, taking you past Thornton Grammar School/Sports Centre shortly on your right. As the road flattens out and becomes (briefly) what appears to be a dual carriageway, look for the Postal Sorting Office on your right. Take the left turn just here (Rhodesway), travelling through the speed bump area and past a new private housing estate to the right. At the T-junction, turn right, then immediately left at the mini-roundabout up the steep hill. After approx. two hundred yards, turn left uphill (5th road – Daisy Hill Lane) at the crossroads. Follow the narrow winding road past The Queen’s Public House on your left, on a bend, over the brow of the hill past Lynfield Mount Hospital, and down the other side (Heights Lane) to a T-Junction. Turn left here onto Haworth Road, and then at the pedestrian refuge 50 yards ahead, prepare to turn right straight afterwards into a narrow drive, between the Health Centre and the School playground. The Church Welcome Board will be on the end of the drive to reassure you - well done!
If you are approaching from the South of the
city, take the M606 link from the M62, and at the end of the M606
keep left and take the slip road up the incline, ignoring the signs
to the City Centre inviting you to go right! At the roundabout
at the top of the slip road (traffic lights) take the 3rd exit
(count carefully!), passing to the right of the Petrol Station.
You’ll pass a Morrisons
Supermarket on your left after a few hundred yards. At this point,
move into the far right-hand lane and turn right at the lights onto the
dual carriageway signposted City Centre (Manchester Road).
Pass ahead through 3 sets of traffic lights until
you arrive at the Inner Ring Road (a roundabout), where the Central
Library will be on your immediate left. At this roundabout, take
the first exit, keeping initially in the centre lane, pass ahead through the next (almost
immediate) lights, (centre lane), ahead through the next set (50
yards) and head uphill with T.J. Hughes Store on your left (B6144
Haworth) in the left-hand lane.
Keep going forward and up the hill (watch the speed camera!)and then straight ahead at the traffic
lights and along the brief dual carriageway,
moving to the right-hand lane as you see the roundabout appear.
Take the 3rd exit (count carefully!), follow the road as it twistsright
through another set of lights and on uphill past the Hare & Hounds Public House on your left. At
the traffic lights ahead, turn left, (B6144 Haworth) and then look
for the Methodist Church on your right. At the pedestrian refuge
100 yards ahead, prepare to turn right straight afterwards into a
narrow drive, between the Health Centre and the School playground.
The Church Welcome Board will be on the end of the drive to reassure
you - well done!
