This autumn Advance Church is doing just that - advancing!

We are joining with thousands of churches across the UK to present the Ten Commandments as you’ve never heard them before – in a different format and in a very different venue.

The 10-week event is being held at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel Bingley (still known as ‘The Bankfield’ to many) and begins on Tuesday 28th September to Tuesday 30th November. It is open to everyone, starting at 7.30 pm until 9.30 pm

Each evening will include live opening worship, a live interview with someone who has had a life-changing experience with God, teaching from J.John on big screen, and a challenge and response opportunity time at the close.

J.John speaks with clear Biblical authority, fantastic humour and refreshing honesty and the content and style of each evening will provide an excellent night out for all ages. We will have a fully-staffed dedicated bar available (both beverages and alcoholic drinks available), and the hotel has an excellent restaurant, for meals before or after the event.

Unlike the do's and don'ts most people imagine when quizzed about the Maker's Instructions, the message is to be both a challenge and an encouragement. ‘Thou shalt not steal’ is entitled ‘How to prosper with a clear conscience’ and ‘Thou shalt not commit adultery’ is unpacked as ‘How to Affair-Proof your Relationships.’

Inspirational speaker J.John, the founder of just10, believes that "the Ten Commandments - God's top 10 - are not obsolete, they are absolute," and of a recent series, J.John commented, "I have been enormously humbled at the way the series has helped people to re-assess, re-focus their priorities and in many cases, restart their lives."

Further details on J.John’s autumn ‘just10’ initiative can be found at www.just10.org

Baptism Service 25th April 2010

We hired Buttershaw Baptist Church for the occasion, and Pastor Derek Carver and Peter Boyle baptised three members of the congregation. All three of the candidates publicly confessed their trust in Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour, and in accordance with Acts 2:38 ( Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.) they were duly totally immersed (baptized) in water, as an outward and public sign of an inward and private decision.

Launch of Advance Church

Sunday 31st January saw the official launch of Advance Church in Wilsden. The guest speaker at both the 10.30 am and 7.30 pm meetings was Pastor Paul Hubbard, from Christian Life Church, Shipley. Pastor Paul has Apostolic oversight of Advance Church, so we were privileged to welcome him on our special opening day.

We began the day with a Bucks Fizz reception, which included a special 'welcome' gift folder for all guests and a special Celebration Cake afterwards. In the evening,we launched 7 Chinese-style Lanterns from the car park before the meeting, and afterwards enjoyed a Cheese & Nibbles Supper.

The aims and vision of the church were unveiled, and Pastor Paul spoke about what it means to move forward in God's purposes and plans.

Women in Worship Day Conference

The day began with worship led by Faye Carver (CLC Shipley) and the keynote message from Pastor Linda Carver (Advance), with the afternoon offering a choice of 2 seminars from the following, all with the theme of freedom:

In the Secret Place - Personal Reflection

In the Public Meeting - Prophetic Movement

In the Place of Prayer - Practical Steps

In the Creative Processes - Precious Reminders

The garden arch theme represented the 'secret place' of worship and prayer - a place to 'enter in to' and a place to 'rest in' as we meet with the Father.

Faye led the conference in an amazingly powerful time of worship, during which the Father touched deep places in ladies' hearts.

Pastor Linda shared from the Word concerning 'the KIng being enthralled by their beauty' and their need to honour Him in all they do.

Hospital Project in Jharkhand India

Advance Church supports the work of N.J. Varughese in Orissa and Jharkhand, where the Christian community is heavily persecuted by radical non-Christian groups. A recent visit to the area by E.U. officials on a fact-finding mission proved difficult due to government officials trying to persuade local believers to return to their destroyed villages and churches just so they could officially report that peace had come back to Kandhamal. Eventually the E.U. delegation was allowed to visit parts of Kandhamal but were not allowed to be involved in any independent fact finding.

Have you heard of Orissa? This story about religious persecution seems to be getting scant media coverage. Here are the facts: By last count 10,000 refugees have fled the state of Orissa in India. Another 50,000 are hiding in the surrounding country-side. According to both AsiaNews and Assyrian news association, mobs are giving locals an ultimatum to convert or have their homes burned or even lose their lives. However, the Indian government seems reluctant to clamp down on the violence. A report to the Indian Supreme Court said, "that the situation in communal riots-hit Kandhamal district of Orissa was ‘much much better’ and the situation was ‘under control’."

The main focus in the region now for N.J. is the completion of the brand-new world quality hospital. Millions of pounds of medical equipment has already been donated, staff accommodation is now under construction and plans are paid for selection and employment of doctors, nurses and ancillary staff .
